Cashback Annual Profit Calculator - Help
Cashback Calculator Usage Notes
Although we believe this to be accurate, we offer no warranty of its accuracy. It is provided on an "as is" basis. The following notes are provided to help you complete the form.
This calculator caters for cashback cards that
- Have a single level of cashback for all spending levels
- Have tiered levels of cashback based on how much you spend
- Have an introductory period which pays a higher level of cashback
- Have a maximum spend that is eligible for cashback
- Have a combination of the above
- (Limited support for cards that have different rates for different categories of spending)
For all types of cards, please enter your monthly card expenditure. This should be a typical amount that you would spend each month using your cashback credit card. The following sections explain how to complete the rest of the form for different types of cards.
Card with a Single level of cashback
You only need to complete the "Standard Cashback (Tier 1)" information. Enter the cashback percentage in the appropriate data entry field. If the card has a maximum spend that is eligible for cashback, enter that in the Maximum Spend Column. If it has no limit, then leave it set to 0. Leave all the Tier 2 and Tier 3 fields at 0.
Card with Tiered levels of cashback
The calculator supports up to 3 levels of cashback. Enter the appropriate cashback percentages for each tier. You must also enter the Maximum Spend for each tier (the top tier should be left at 0 if it has no limit). For example, if cashback of 0.5% is paid up to and including £3500, then enter "0.5" and "3500" in Tier 1. If the next tier offers 1% up to £10000, enter "1" and "10000" in Tier 2. If the next tier offers 1.5% for all expenditure over £10000 then enter "1.5" in Cashback % in Tier 3 but leave the Maximum Spend at 0 (because there is no limit on Tier 3).
Card with an Introductory Rate
If your card has an introductory rate, then enter the rate in the line that starts "Intro Rate (if applicable)". If this rate has a maximum spend that is eligible for the introductory rate, then enter that too. Finally, enter the number of months that the introductory rate applies to. The introductory rate can be combined with cards that offer either single levels of cashback or tiered levels of cashback.
Limited Support for Cards with Different Rates for Different Spending Categories
Some cards offer an increased level of cashback for specific categories of spending (e.g. supermarket shopping or petrol) and then a lower standard rate for everything else. The calculator does not support these directly, but you can use it to work out the profit for these cards. To do so, you need to decide how much of your monthly spending will be on the specific category and how much will be on everything else. You then need to run the calculator twice: once with the details for the specific categor and once for the rest of your spending.
