Re: Best Spending Card to back up Amex Cashback?
good news Sarah. i had to raise a claim, which didn't work as it said that the account number could only be 4 digits, and wouldn't accept the first 4, or the last 4.. but in fairness CS was spot on when i sent a support message, and now showing as 'Claim Processing'. should be ok. made a £3odd purchase last night, but that's probably the only one i'll do..

like a true Stoozer
earning some cashback by spending on the Asda card is good stuff, but nothing, in itself, better than other cards on the market. if this is working as it seems to be, then the point of difference, it seems to me, is Asda Money's system for receiving payments. it would seem that they accept credit card payments rather than just debit card payments, and that they are treated, by the card provider, in this case Nationwide --but i suspect that might not matter, as purchases.
I've been thinking the same and this is the next thing I want to test. I successfully used my Nationwide Select card to pay off Asda last month, making 1.00% cashback total, but it would be better to instead use the Halifax Clarity Rewards card to pay off the first £300, if that works, making 2.17% cashback in total. Has anyone tried this yet?
Re: Best Spending Card to back up Amex Cashback?
good thinking Sarah. i cleared my first month's spending on Asda yesterday, by FP from HSBC c/a. i should have used it as a test case really.. diverting my Amex backup (Barclaycard Cashback Visa) spending on to Asda to then clear it by paying with my Barclaycard each month, seems my best option. unless Asda accept Amex..??
Re: Best Spending Card to back up Amex Cashback?
Sadly they won't accept Amex since it's intended for debit cards, so it's not an option, however I'd expect your Barclaycard is likely to work by using the VISA card.

On the topic of Asda... Has anyone set up a 'in case I forget' direct debit? I can't see if it acts like Santander and ignores previously paid amounts or like Halifax and only triggers if not previously paid. Anyone have a view?

M&S master card seems to work nicely if anyone is keeping a list.
